The newly appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Vanuatu, Ms. Karen Bell paid the Director General Ambassador Amena Yauvoli a courtesy visit yesterday afternoon Tuesday 13th August 2019 to meet DG and familiarize herself with the work the Secretariat does for our Members.

Ambassador Yauvoli, explained the current aims and achievements of the Secretariat from all programmes within the Secretariat, including the newly established Sports and Arts & Culture programme. He explained how equally important all the programmes are for the MSG sub-region supporting the strategic priorities of our Members. In Arts & Culture and Sports alone, as we are currently consulting with our Members, already we are seeing it as the “gel that holds our people together”, said Ambassador Yauvoli.

High Commissioner Bell mentioned that although the British Government are not as huge players in the region as Australia and New Zealand are, through the British High Commission they are excited and ready to support the work of the MSG Secretariat in ways of partnerships between British based organisations to help move the missions and goals of the MSG forward for the MSG Member States.

Ms. Bell succeeds non-resident outgoing High Commissioner, Mr. David Ward as High Commissioner to the Republic of Vanuatu as the Government of United Kingdom reopens the British High Commission in Port Vila. High Commissioner Bell is the first British HC to be posted in Port Vila in fifteen years.
